Requirements if you are a winner
CONGRATULATIONS !
" You are among those randomly selected and registered
for further consideration in the DV immigrant visa program
...."
That is the letter you all hope to receive now that you have
filed your applications.
When, and if, you receive such a letter, the process actually
begins. The processing center selects and notifies 100,000
applicants. Only 55,000 of those will receive immigrant visas.
Therefore, the screening will eliminate the extra 45,000 or more.
You must prove :
- 1. At least 12 years of full-time education (high school
diploma or equivalent), or 2 years of work experience in
an occupation which requires at least 2 years of training
or experience; and
- 2. That you will not become a burden on the United
States. You may have a sponsor who guarantees your
support for three years, or an employer who guarantees
employment for three years, or a bank account adequate to
cover your expenses for three years.
You must also provide all documentation that any other
immigrant visa applicant would have to provide, i.e., birth
certificate, police certificate, military documents, marriage or
divorce papers, medical exams, photographs, fingerprints, etc.. .
Any document that is in a language other than English, must be
accompanied by a certified English translation.
Obviously, once you are notified, you should comply with all
requirements as soon as possible, keeping in mind that 45,000 of
those selected will not receive visas. Time is of the essence
Based on past experience, the chances of your application
being selected are 1 in 65, since there are approximately 6.5
million applications yearly. Even though the odds seems high, you
should make preliminary arrangements to comply with requirement
#2 above
Based on the number of applications that came through our
office, we will be talking to several of you in the coming
months.
